Okay, the secret is out. I work with the homeless teens in this project named The Covenant House of Georgia. Let me tell you about this program.
If you could crystallize what Covenant House Georgia does into one sentence it would be this: We save kids from the street.
Some of the kids who come to us are victims of abuse. Some were literally dropped on the street by relatives. Some are runaways. Some are kids who have “aged out” of the DFACS system. They all share one thing in common; they’ve turned to CHGA for help.
Covenant House Georgia is the only crisis facility for kids between the ages of 17 and 21. The beds at our shelters are always full. And we need your help. On the following pages you can get an in depth look at our operation and see how we help provide the kids in our care with something many of them have never had in their lives before, hope.
More importantly, you can see what you can do to help.
A team of four men and myself go out on the streets of Atlanta at night looking for homeless teens in abandon buildings and under bridges. I was stuck in my heart to see teens thrown out on the streets by their parents because they are gay or transgender.
On any given night across metro Atlanta, hundreds of homeless youth can’t find a safe place to stay. They’re scared to go to adult shelters. Non-profits and assistance providers often do not understand the needs of homeless youth and may lack the resources to provide the necessary interventions. Covenant House Georgia does.
On any given night, 100 vulnerable and forgotten kids are on the waiting list. Kids served at Covenant House Georgia live for months on the streets, or in other places not intended for human habitation. When they show up at the door, we have to make sure there’s both a bed and a well-thought-out intervention.
Help Covenant House keep the promise. No one in crisis should be turned away.
This is what I need from my readers. Go to www.covenanthouse.org and donate whatever you can. If it's two penny's then I appreciate it because you gave all you had to help these kids. If you would like to donate to these kids via "me" then do so as well. I am helping our future and getting these kids off these evil streets. I know the streets. I use to be out in them at night. This could have been me at that age and I am still not safe because I can become a homeless adult in a blink of an eye.
Excuse me for the tears, I get so emotional when I even think about these children.
So, this is very important to me on a serious level. You can also contact them yourself....

I am a former resident of Covenant House Detroit. The Covenant House provided safety for me during a time I was in an abusive relationship, young, and had burned all my bridges. I am currently graduating with a BSW from the University of Michigan-Flint, and am looking to forward to entering an MSW program in the Fall. This organization inspired me to give back by providing opportunities for youth that are disadvantaged. Necessities such as soap, towels, bedding, beds, etc, are limited. Please understand that giving to such and organization provides so much for youth that are abused and forgotten.
Wow that is so inspring. I hope you are sharing your experiences with as many people who are interested. I know that I am interested in knowing what people need and ask for when putting their life back together. If there is any meaning to life I'd say it's first to get our own shit together then pay it forward.
Thank you Thaddeus I got you
