WHAT DO I DESIRE: WHAT DO I WANT:

What makes you itch? What sort of a situation would you like? What would you like to do if money was no option? How would you really enjoy spending your life?

Years ago I asked myself these questions. I had no sense of direction, no purpose. I knew what I wanted at that moment but did not know what I needed in the future. I said money. If I hit the lottery and become a millionaire then all my problems would be solved. Even if I was just comfortable in my finances where all my bills were paid and I had about fifty thousand dollars just sitting in the bank I would be happy. I was so sadly mistaken.

If you say getting the money is the important thing, you will spend the rest of your life completely wasting your time. You'll be doing things you don't like doing in order to go on living....that is, to go on doing things that you don't like doing. Which is stupid.

We see older or senior people and we say "They must have a good life. They have seen it all. They are wise in their years." This once again if a false sense of reality. They may be cursed to live a long lonely life because of the way they lived. They may be paying the piper for the things they did in their lives. This may be their suffering...to see people that means the world to them die off.

Better to have a short life, that is full of what you like doing. Than to have a long life spending it in a miserable way.

Don't be retro-novontic.

It is so important to consider this question. "What do I desire?"

It's not how much money you have, it's what you do with it that counts.

For years and years I've said that if I ever won the Lotto and never had to work again, I'd take 10% of the winnings and use it to start a charitable trust to support causes that are dear to my husband and to me. I'd also buy a beautiful home in Hancock Park (Los Angeles) that's ideal for entertaining and encourage the non-profit groups I support to use it for fundraising events.

This guy had the right idea:

It feels like you didn't finish the thought. What's the answer to your own question? What is it that will make you feel you've had a good life? I love what you had to say and It's the core question for each of us. Thanks for reminding me.

Malcolm, I am still in that thought. I am still unfinished.
